White Oman marble, Riyadh 2021. 3.5 metres high.
“My inspiration has been the combination of my sculptural aesthetic with the beautiful nature that I have found in Saudi Arabia.
During my research in preparation for my visit, I discovered the Arabian Serin a little bird from the finch family, that lives only in the desert of Saudi Arabia.
Designated the Year of Arabic Calligraphy 2020 by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan. The beautiful calligraphy that I found has helped me to shape the main element of the sculpture which is a stylised Acacia Tree or Lavender Tree fusion.
The sculptor says “I hope that my sculpture tells a narrative of the bird in the dessert surrounded by nature and traditional forms. The new sculpture is 3m high made of white and black marble from Oman, I hope that you will find your own story in it.  Working in Riyadh has been a delight, the country is majestic in its beauty and bio-diversity. The people are highly creative, warm and enthusiastic about developing new culture and proud of its historic culture. Monumental Sculpture Symposiums put sculptural making at the heart of communities creating these jewels of public art in real environments, making it accessible to everyone and belonging to everyone.
Working alongside international sculptors broadens our understanding of methods and processes, creates dialogue and enhances diversity. This cross cultural movement feeds creativity and understanding.
